Augsburg notched their first Bundesliga victory of the season with a 3-1 home success against Werder Bremen on Friday.

Both sides had struggled for a win in recent times but it was Augsburg who started off the better, with Tobias Werner delighting the SGL Arena crowd with his second-minute goal.

Chelsea loanee Kevin De Bryune has enjoyed an impressive start to the season at Werder and the Belgian levelled proceedings on 19 minutes, but parity did not last long.

Stephan Hain was the man responsible for firing Augsburg ahead and it was an advantage they carried into the half-time break.

Werder pushed for an equaliser, with manager Thomas Schaaf making a raft of attacking changes, but it failed to pay off as Daniel Baier's first ever Bundesliga goal, netted 18 minutes from time, sealed the win for Augsburg.

Augsburg climbed off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation zone as a result of the victory, moving to 15th.

Werder's defeat cost them a chance of moving clear of the five sides on seven points, with Schaaf's men dropping to 11th.
