Arsene Wenger is still looking to strengthen his Arsenal squad, although he is coy on whether Mathieu Flamini could be among the additions.
The London club have been linked with moves for Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez during the close-season but Wenger has only made one signing so far - 20-year-old Yaya Sanogo, who arrived on a free transfer from Auxerre.
Arsenal's bids for Suarez have been flatly rejected by Liverpool, while Higuain chose to move to Napoli instead of the Emirates Stadium and Rooney appears to be heading for Chelsea.
That has led to criticism from sections of the club's supporters over a lack of transfer activity, with an opening-day defeat to Aston Villa only raising those frustrations.
However, at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Fulham this weekend, Wenger insisted that he had been active in the transfer market throughout the close-season, although he refused to be drawn on whether midfielder Flamini, who has been training with the club, could be an imminent addition.
"You'd be surprised how early we acted (in the transfer market)," said the Arsenal boss. "(Sometimes) it doesn't come off.
"I would rather have (had) the squad in place at the start of the season.
"Every player's first question is 'do you play in the Champions League or not?' That is the first requirement
"I'm confident (on making signings). We have some funds available."
On Flamini, who was released by Milan at the end of last season, he added: "He is just here to work on his fitness and he does that very well.
"I don't say there's no chance and I don't say there is a chance (of signing him)."
Flamini previously played for Arsenal between 2004 and 2008 - making 153 appearances for the club.
