After reports that Shanghai wanted Cahill off their books, the 35-year-old has scored in consecutive games after only finding the net once in the first 13 matches.
Cahill rose highest to meet Wang Yun's corner in 52nd minute but the goal wasn't enough as Shanghai went down 3-2 to Jiangsu.
