Video: Is this the strangest finish in Football history?

Rovers

Doncaster Rovers faced Bury on the first day of League One football, and as the game looked set to end in a 0-0 draw, no one could’ve picked the imminent controversy.

The ball was played out in order for Bury defender Nathan Cameron to receive treatment, and Rovers’ Harry Forrester pulled off one of the best goals you will ever see, as his intended pass sailed over the Bury goalkeepers head.

With a 1-0 lead in extra time, tensions boiled over.

It was only after players, officials and technical staff came together that it was agreed Bury’s Leon Clarke could walk the ball into the net and score what could be the easiest goal in footballing history.

Despite giving up what would be one of the most memorable yet controversial victories in living memory, Doncaster Rovers’ coach Paul Dickov said they made right decision.

“It was Harry’s best shot of the day but we had to do what was right,” Dickov said.

“The officials have put us in an awkward situation and it could have been negated.

“We wanted to uphold the good name of Doncaster Rovers.”

Despite sportsmanship prevailing and both sides receiving a point each, you have to feel for the unlucky pundits who had picked a Derby win.
