Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni has praised his side's display in Monday's 2-0 defeat against Italy.
An Antonio Cassano header in the first half and a late Mario Balotelli goal inflicted a third straight defeat Trapattoni's side at Euro 2012, leaving them to fly out of Poland and Ukraine with zero points.
However, the coach is refusing to be let down and took positives from the match against the Azzurri.
"I am proud of our commitment," he said after the match. "Italy beat us, but we gave them our honour, our commitment and maybe we deserved a little bit more.
"I understand their disappointment because we had hoped to do better, but tonight, I have nothing to reproach the players for.
"In my life, I have had many successes and been the manager of great teams. I have always had the habit of winning and not losing and when I lose, I do not sleep at night. I think about if I have made mistakes.
"After the Croatia and Spain games, I would like to have immediately played the game again, but I think we played a good game against Italy tonight."
Ireland will kick off their World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign against Kazakhstan in September, and Trapattoni has guaranteed that he has not lost faith in the team.
"The willingness is there to come back with fresh energy and a new squad to do better, and I cannot wait for the new season to start," the 73-year-old said.
