Tim Cahill's best Socceroos goals

Tim Cahill
Time and again, the 35-year-old has been the one to lead Australia to victory in some of the Socceroos' biggest games.

To celebrate his scoring prowess, here are some of his best and most important goals in the green and gold!

1) Double against Japan, 2006 World Cup, Kaiserslautern, 12 June 2006,
Who could ever forget the crazy last 10 minutes of this game!? Cahill came off the bench and scored two of the most memorable goals in the history of the Socceroos. Not only were they Australia's first ever World Cup goals, they also paved the way for the green and gold's first ever win at the tournament. And Super Tim wrote his name in Australian sporting folklore in the process!

2) Another double against Japan, 2010 World Cup Qualifying, Melbourne, 17 June 2009
You'd think the Japanese would've learnt their lesson from the 2006 World Cup, but apparently they hadn't as Cahill scored another brace to ensure the Aussies finished top of their qualifying group for the 2010 World Cup in front of a massive crowd at the MCG.

3) Serbia, 2010 World Cup, Nelspruit, 23 June 2010
Cahill got his name on the scoresheet in a second consecutive World Cup with a trademark header against Serbia in the final group game. Although it wasn't enough to get the Socceroos through to the round of 16, it did pave the way for Australia's only win in South Africa.

4) Oman, 2014 World Cup Qualifying, Sydney, 26 March 2013
Finding themselves two goals behind in a crucial qualifier against Oman, Cahill sparked a comeback with a brilliantly placed header (surprise, surprise). The game ended in a disappointing 2-2 draw, but the result did eventually proved crucial to the Socceroos' path to Brazil in 2014.

5) Netherlands, 2014 World Cup, Porto Alegre, 18 June 2014
Do we even need to describe this one? Surely the best goal scored in Socceroos colours, Cahill's masterful volley came seconds after the Aussies fell behind to the Dutch in the second group game of the 2014 tournament. In what would turn out to be one of the games of the tournament, Australia went on to lose 3-2 but won many fans the world over thanks to a truly gutsy performance.

6) Double against China, 2015 Asian Cup, Brisbane, 22 January 2015
After failing to break down a rigid Chinese defence for 45 minutes, Cahill broke the deadlock with one of his best ever goals, turning home a looping Ivan Franjic header with a spectacular scissor kick. He then sealed Australia's passage to the semis with a header (they'll never get old) and add even more weight to the argument that he is the best ever to pull on the green and gold.
