The Jets head into Friday night’s Round 11 fixture with Adelaide United still searching for their first win of the campaign.
It’s desperate times for the Hunter club and while admitting they are working overtime to find the answers, Stubbins won’t get his side to change their style as they aim to stop the rot against the Reds.
“We’ve tried to bang away and play a brand of football that can win us games and a lot of times we’ve done that,” Stubbins said on Tuesday.
“We’ve had some situations where been in front and just haven’t been able to bring it home.
“If we were getting absolutely battered every week we’d be saying ‘where to from here?’.
“But it’s only small margins. It’s trying times for us there’s no getting away from that.
"We haven’t had the win we’ve been searching for although we’ve come close a number of times but just haven’t got across the line.”
Stubbins will be forced into a few changes for Friday’s match due to injuries as well as the suspension of skipper and defender Kew Jaliens following their 2-0 loss to Glory last weekend.
The Jets boss confirmed the likes of Allan Welsh and Ben Kantarovski were likely to fill the position in the heart of defence alongside Adrian Madaschi.
“We’ve got a few options and we had a look at that today,” Stubbins said.
“Ben is such a strong competitive type of commodity, he really is a physical specimen that can compete against anyone in the league.
“We’ll see how he goes, speak to the kid and find out if he’s comfortable there. We’re in a situation now where have to look at everything.”
Playmaker Marcos Flores trained lightly on Tuesday but is unlikely to be right to face one of his former clubs.
The Jets will celebrate their 10-year anniversary in the Hyundai A-League against the Reds on Friday night.
The two clubs met in the opening round of the competition in its inception in 2005.
“To have 10 years is a fantastic milestone for the club and we’ve been champions once as well,” Stubbins added.
“Although it’s been trying times the last five years, we’ve got an opportunity to move forward. We’ve got 10,000 members and got a fantastic supporter base.
“We all want 25,000 crammed in [to Hunter Stadium] screaming for the Jets, down the track that’s what we want and where we need to head.”
