St Pauli earned some respite from the relegation zone following a 1-0 triumph over Kaiserslautern on Friday.

The victory sees Holger Stanislawski's side move to 13th in the Bundesliga standings, five points clear of the bottom three.

Kaiserslautern entered the game after recording back-to-back victories over Nurnberg and Schalke, while St Pauli had claimed just one point from their last six matches.

Neither side could open the scoring in a tense first-half but joy was to come for St Pauli just three minutes after the interval when Kaiserslautern midfielder Christian Tiffert inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

Kaiserslautern threw everything at the hosts in the dying stages but were unable to find the equaliser as St Pauli held firm for a much needed victory.

The result sees St Pauli level on points with Kaiserslautern, who retain 12th position by account of a superior goal difference.
