St Mirren forced a Scottish Cup quarter-final replay with Hearts thanks to a late Marius Zaliukas own goal in a 2-2 draw in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The visitors dominated the early exchanges and went ahead through Graham Carey's 20-yard free kick but were undone by Craig Beattie, who replied with a header for Hearts before he crossed for substitute Rudi Skacel to fire the home side ahead.

St Mirren were frustrated in the first half when a strong penalty claim for a Danny Grainger handball was waved away but luck was on their side late on.

Nigel Hasslebaink's effort deflected in off the unlucky Zaliukas to level the scores six minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Hibernian breezed through to the semi-finals with a 2-0 win away to first division side Ayr United at Somerset Park.

The visitors started the better and went ahead in the sixth minute when Roy O'Donovan headed in George Francomb's free-kick moments after his first effort was ruled out for offside.

Leigh Griffiths then made it 2-0 inside 20 minutes from the penalty spot after Andrew Geggan had fouled Isaiah Osbourne.

Geggan produced Ayr's best chance in the second half with a bullet header as they also had a late penalty claim turned down.
