After the recent 0-0 draw with UAE and defeat to Qatar, Ange Postecoglou’s side dropped 10 places from last month’s rankings.

It’s the lowest the Socceroos have ever been ranked, surpassing our ranking of 92 in the year 2000.

Some of the other nations ranked around the Socceroos include Morocco, Lithuania, Haiti, Rwanda and Mozambique.

With the Asian Cup less than three months away, Australia has slipped to 11th in the AFC, with Iran still Asia’s best at 51 in the world.

Japan is second (52) with Uzbekistan (65) and South Korea one spot further back to be third and fourth respectively.

The Socceroos take on Kuwait (120th), Oman (83rd) and Korea (66th) in the group stage of the Asian Cup which will be held on home soil.

One saving grace for the Socceroos is it is possible to surge up the ranking in quick time.

Just seven months after their lowest ranking of 92 in 2000, the Socceroos cut their ranking in half to sit at 46th by July 2001.

The Socceroos’ highest-ever ranking was a lofty 14th under Pim Verbeek back in 2009.

World Cup winners Germany still lead the way ahead of Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and Netherlands in the top five.
