Postecoglou snared the Asian coach of the year award while the Socceroos won the team of the year gong - both being rewarded for the Asian Cup victory on home soil at the beginning of the year.

With the national team at the crossroads nine months out from the 2014 World Cup, Postecoglou was proud of the progress the Socceroos have made under his watch.

"It’s been a great year for Australian football," Postecoglou said.

"I guess this award is not just for me but everyone who works really hard, and not just the national team but the whole organisation."

Flying Tottenham winger Son Heung-min won the international player of the year award - with Asian Cup player of the tournament Massimo Luongo missing out.

Asian player of the year was clinched by UAE's Ahmed Khalil - pipping teammate Omar Abdulrahman and China's Zheng Zhi.

Japan won the best women's team award while Guangzhou Evergrande were recognised as club of the year after their Asian Champions League and Chinese Super League triumphs.
