Secret Agent: News Corp in legal trouble?

Secret Agent

Strong social media reports surfaced last week that litigation is under way, after the Sunday Telegraph’s story naming and shaming the leaked list of banned A-League fans.

Soon after the Sunday Telegraph published the photos of the alleged banned supporters, totalling 198, many of them flared up with a few investigating their legal options.

I understand that many of those referred to in the article have been cleared of any wrong doing, and therefore were not even banned. The fur might fly over this…

Betting scandal

New South Wales Police have been asked to investigate a betting scandal which is alleged to have occurred last season in the NSW State League.

The sting apparently took place around a NSW Premier League match, with a significant bet placed on the result. This was done in the knowledge that one of the clubs was set to rest several key players for the game.

While both senior club coaches and their senior squads were cleared of any wrongdoing, I can reveal that two figures connected to one of the teams placed significant bets that their club would lose, which they duly did, and those bets were paid out.

I wonder if that club knows of the investigation surrounding one of their new recruits…

Gombau City-Bound?

As I revealed a few weeks back, Melbourne City’s search for a new coach has intensified.

Over the past 10 days, one name being persistently linked with the job is that of former Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau.

The Spaniard, who quit the Reds in July to join MLS giants New York City as head of the youth academy, has been sounded out on a return to the A-League, and my sources indicate that he is giving the possibility serious consideration.

Stay tuned!
