The Brisbane Roar's resounding 2-0 victory over the Central Coast Mariners takes them just three points adrift of Adelaide in second place on the Hyundai A-League ladder, but coach Ange Postecoglou says hunting top spot is no priority.
After finishing second from last in 2009/10 the revamped Roar are now being touted as the form side of the competition and, having lost just once in their opening 10 matches, it would be hard for any side - with the possible exception of Adelaide - to argue.
Although happy to praise the effort and football his team have delivered so far this season, Postecoglou is keeping the champagne corked and says there's no reason to focus on leading the competition just a third of the way into the season.
"We said all along that we're not putting any limits or any targets, because once you start doing that you almost limit where you can go to," Postecoglou said.
"If you say your goal is to be top at some stage and then you get there, what happens then?"
"For us it's about continuing to improve as a team and as footballers, as individuals… we just want to keep getting better and better and see where that takes us."
"The boys are rightly starting to get some credit for what they're doing."
In a match that delivered two sensational goals -a curling right footer from Thomas Broich at the edge of the area, and a thunderous drive on the half volley from Ivan Franjic - and more importantly another three points, it would be hard to begrudge Postecoglou a minute to bask.
But with the final stage of their triple header week yet to be played, you can understand why the Roar are showing restraint, especially considering that their Saturday night opponent, Melbourne Victory, is the only side with a win over them this season.
"We start thinking about the Victory now and that's it. You can't do any more than that," said Postecoglou.
"It's a great challenge for us. They did beat us, and that hurt that day."
"We're looking forward to it, they're a quality team and the thing about them is that they'll take the game to us."
As for his side's highly-entertaining goal celebration after Franjic's strike - which saw Massimo Murdocca using the corner flag to paddle a kayak comprised of three team-mates on hands and knees - the coach says he was just as surprised as everyone else at Suncorp Stadium.
"I don't know when they're doing that! That's the first I've seen it," said Postecoglou.
"They're doing that in their spare time, let me tell you."
