The season of Newcastle Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski was ended due to a broken jaw suffered in an incident at a nightclub, it has been reported.

The Jets issued a press release on Tuesday revealing Kantarovski would miss the rest of the 2012-13 A-League season through injury and had also been fined and disciplined by the club.

The 21-year-old had been undergoing rehabilitation on a knee injury suffered in Week 4, with the Jets not providing details on how the Australia youth international had sustained his latest setback.

But reports have surfaced that Kantarovski had been involved in a nightclub incident early Sunday morning local time in Newcastle, and that his jaw had been broken as a result.

The police were not called to the incident and at this stage no further action will be taken into the off-field drama.

''Ben is aware he has let down the club, his team-mates and all our members, fans and corporate supporters in a critical part of the season,'' Newcastle Jets chief executive Robbie Middleby said in the club's statement.

In better news for the club, defender Dominik Ritter is set to make a return to the team after spending six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The former Switzerland under-21 international played 60 minutes for the Jets' National Youth League team last weekend and said he is hopeful of helping the Newcastle fight for a finals berth in the final seven weeks of the competition.

"I'm feeling good, I'm feeling fit now and I've worked very hard with the physio and there's no pain at all," Ritter said after a solid training session on Tuesday.

"I played 60 minutes with the youth team last weekend just to get some game time and I'm confident now I can come back into the A-League this weekend.

"I feel fit and if the coach decides to put me on the pitch, I'm ready."
