Real Madrid confirm Bale talks

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that the club are in talks to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

Bale, 24, has been continually linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the transfer window, with Real rumoured to be ready to break the £80million world record transfer fee to land the Tottenham winger.

That record was set by Real in 2009 to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to the club from Manchester United, and the Spanish side are reportedly eager to pair the Portuguese with the Wales international as they aim to regain the domestic title they lost to Barcelona last term.

Ancelotti, who took over at Real in June after guiding Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title last season, admitted that the two clubs are discussing a potential transfer, but insisted he had not yet spoken with Bale.

"I believe the club is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens," he said.

"It is difficult to talk about Bale because he is not a Real Madrid player at present.

"I have never spoken to him. I do not usually talk to players who are not from my team and it would not be fair to do so."

Reports had indicated that former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric may return to White Hart Lane as part of a prospective deal for Bale, but Ancelotti refuted those suggestions.

"It is not true that Modric is going. He is a very important player for us and he will be here this season," he added.
