Ranieri 'untouchable' at Roma

The AS Roma board have backed under-fire manager Claudio Ranieri, despite the team only managing a 0-0 draw at bottom club Parma on Sunday.

Runners-up behind Inter Milan last season, Roma have endured a dire start to the new campaign and are just one point above the relegation zone after winning two games from a possible eight.

Speculation is rife that former Chelsea and Juventus manager Ranieri's tenure in the Italian capital is nearing an end, but Roma director Daniele Prade staunchly defended the beleaguered manager after the Parma draw.

"Ranieri is untouchable," Prade said.

"We have unlimited faith in him and without a shadow of doubt we will keep going with Ranieri."

"Obviously there are regrets at the result today, as we ought to win these games. At least we can begin again from a clean sheet."

"It had been quite a few months since we'd picked up a point away from home, too."

"We started the season in a strange way, but we have all the time it takes to turn it around."

While Roma continue to deflect criticism of their stuttering form, a 0-0 draw represents a strong result for a Parma team that have only won once this season and sit at the foot of the table.

"It was a good performance with many chances and the team held out well," Parma coach Pasquale Marino said.

"My lads showed no fear against a great side like Roma."\
