Paris Saint-Germain recorded a 1-0 victory over Lyon at Stade Gerland to give them the Ligue 1 title, the third in their history.

PSG knew that victory against third-placed Lyon would secure the championship, but they had to suffer a frustrating 52 minutes before they made the breakthrough.

Thiago Motta was the driving force behind the winning goal, as he dispossessed Maxime Gonalons on the half-way line before exchanging passes with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Lyon half.

When he had the ball back at his feet, he rolled a pass to Jeremy Menez and the Frenchman fired a low shot past Anthony Lopes to win the game and get the celebrations started.

Evian produced the shock of the day as they beat fifth-placed Nice 4-0 to lift them out of the bottom three by two points, and relegate Brest in the process.

They had only won eight times all season and with their opponents chasing Lyon in third, an away win looked on the cards before kick-off, but Evian never gave them a chance to settle and took advantage of some poor defending.

Kevin Berigaud put the home side ahead midway through the first half as he pounced on a pass from Saber Khelifa to fire his fourth goal of the season.

Three second-half goals secured the victory for Evian, Mohammed Rabiu firing home from outside the area three minutes after the break before top scorer Khelifa added two further goals.

Lorient moved above Bordeaux and Montpellier into seventh position in the table with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Coupe de la Ligue winners St Etienne.

After a goalless first-half, the goals flowed after the break. A 50th minute strike from Kevin Monnet-Pauet put the hosts ahead, the forward meeting a cross from Lamine Gassama to head past Stephane Ruffier.

Crosses into the penalty area were causing St Etienne trouble and the hosts doubled their lead just after the hour as Fabien Robert met a Benjamin Corgnet and headed the ball into the bottom corner.

Kurt Zouma gave the visitors a lifeline with 10 minutes to play with the third headed goal of the match, he scored from close range after a Lorient had failed to clear a corner.

Renaud Cohade missed a late chance for St Etienne and was punished in the final seconds as Yann Jouffre sent a free-kick into the top-right corner to seal the win for Lorient.
