Fans in Abidjan watched on as their beloved national side played out a lacklustre scoreless draw with a 10-man Cameroon, with the result enough to secure the Elephants a place in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.

This sent supporters into a state of delirium, so they did what any football fan would do and invaded the pitch in celebration.

However, the riot police inside the ground weren't too happy about the situation, so they took it upon themselves to lay down the law on those people unlucky enough to run into them.

The threat of violence didn't deter everyone though as fans pulled down a crossbar with particularly adventurous supporter attempting to grab the ultimate souvenir...Gervinho's shorts.

As if that wasn't enough, the end to the actual game was just as bizarre.

With the Ivory Coast players fully aware they needed only a draw to seal their place in the continental tournament and Cameroon already qualified, the hosts simply passed the ball around in their defensive third until the referee finally blew his whistle.

These really are strange times we live in!
