Phoenix get fixture switch

Wellington Phoenix have been successful in their bid to get March's fixture against the Newcastle Jets switched because of New Zealand's World Cup qualifying matches.

The Jets were due to have played in Wellington on March 23 but All Whites matches against New Caledonia on March 22 and the Solomon Islands on March 26 have seen Football Federation Australia agree to the A-League fixture being moved to February 27.

The Phoenix, who raised the issue last July, had a similar fixture clash for the Round 2 match against Melbourne Heart when eight players were away on international duty for New Zealand and the Solomon Islands.

They sent a depleted side to Melbourne that included several of the club's academy players, who were signed on one-match deals.

But due to the fact those players would be subject to international transfer regulations and that the registration window would not be open in Round 26, the only viable option was to move to the alternative date.

The match on February 27 will be played at Westpac Stadium and will kick-off at 7.30pm.
