Pasfield eyes Sydney scalp

North Queensland goalkeeper Justin Pasfield says victory over Sydney FC on Wednesday night is more about getting the Fury's season back on the right track rather than inflicting more pain on his former club.

Pasfield was part of the Sydney squad from 2005-07 but failed to play a senior match with the club before being released back into the NSW Premier League.

After spending a couple of years looking for opportunities around the country, Pasfield found a home with the Fury when they joined the competition last year.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in coach Franz Straka's side this season has produced some impressive performances for the Townsville-based club.

Ahead of the midweek clash against the Sky Blues, Pasfield said he wasn't motivated by trying to pour more misery on the club where he was never given an opportunity with the first team.

"When you play against your former club there is extra motivation to do well but it's not about that (on Wednesday)," Pasfield said.

"This is a big match for us, we've dropped down a bit lately after a pretty good start."

"We've got a job to do and it's going to be a good challenge for us."

"Hopefully I can play well but more importantly the team can perform well."

While Sydney are still searching for their first win and are rooted to the bottom of the ladder, Pasfield and his Fury team-mates aren't fooled into thinking they'll have an easy time of it at the SFS.

"Sydney's always been a good club with good support and it's only a matter of time before they come good," the shot-stopper said.

"Hopefully it's not against us."

"They'll be under a bit of pressure but we've got our game plan and we'll try and put them on the back foot."

Sydney showed glimpses of returning some of their best form in Sunday's 1-1 draw with the Gold Coast but again small lapses in concentration proved their undoing.

The Sky Blues are clearly lacking in confidence at the moment but skipper Terry McFlynn denies their current problems are psychological.

"It's always nice to get a win and get that monkey off our back," he said.

"But we're still fighting hard."

"We believe we're doing the right things and some wins are not far away."

The Fury, who defeated Vitezslav Lavicka's side 2-1 when they met earlier in the season, will be without skipper Ufuk Talay for Wednesday's game.

The veteran midfielder was handed a two-match ban for an off-the-ball incident with Chris Greenacre in the weekend's loss to Wellington.
