Australian footballer Kyle Nix has been given permission by his club, Mansfield Town, to go on trial at Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam.

Nix, 24, represented Manchester United and Aston Villa at youth team level and has spent the season playing for Mansfield in the Blue Square Conference in England.

The Sydney-born midfielder made 23 appearances for Mansfield in the 2009-10 season scoring two goals and hopes a move to Holland will help his chances of playing for the Socceroos.

"Kyle has been offered a trial over there and it is a great opportunity for him," said Mansfield manager David Holdsworth speaking to local paper The Nottingham Post.

"He still has hopes of playing for Australia and they have an Australian coach in their set-up."

Sparta Rotterdam are the oldest club in Dutch football but were relegated in the 2009-10 season.
