Mourinho: Give me a call

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho said he would love to see disgruntled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney at the Bernabeu.

But the 47-year-old coach believes Rooney will work through his issues with United and remain at the English side.

Just a day after Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney, 24, had told the club he wants to leave, there have been no shortage of suitors for the England international, whose form has dipped this term amid sordid allegations about his private life.

With a potential asking price beyond the means of all but the richest clubs in world football, Real Madrid are certainly one of the chosen few who could accommodate the troubled star.

But former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Mourinho believes Rooney will stay at Old Trafford.

"My thoughts are he will stay," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"He probably wants to leave for some reasons, but I believe he belongs to Man United, he belongs to Man United fans, he belongs to Old Trafford."

"I believe he is going to stay - but if at the end of day Man United decides that he is to leave, give me a call."

"I think and I wish because I like him, I like Sir Alex, I like Man United - I believe the best thing for him is to stay there for life."
