Messi’s Barca teammates rounded out the top four, with Luis Suarez just ahead of Neymar.

Eden Hazard was rewarded for a remarkable season with Chelsea to be named in fifth spot while Thomas Muller, Arturo Vidal, Carlos Tevez, Paul Pogba and Kevin de Bruyne completed the top ten.

Messi returned to his best form in 2015 and led Barcelona to another treble and scored 58 goals in all competitions.

He also captained Argentina to the Copa America final and was named the tournament’s MVP.

Despite breaking Raul’s Real Madrid goal-scoring record, 30-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t quite claim his second consecutive Goal 50 gong.

Major trophies eluded the Portuguese maestro even though he found the back of the net 61 times.

Notable rejects this year were Wayne Rooney, Mario Balotelli, Karim Benzema, Franck Ribery and Javier Mascherano who all failed to crack the top 50.

John Terry was the highest placed Englishman in 29th while Welsh striker Gareth Bale finished in 24th spot.

Tottenham dynamo Harry Kane (33) finished inside the top 50 for the first time ever.
