Marta, 29, widely considered the world's best ever player, has played in four World Cups, scored the most goals in the tournament and won FIFA player of the year five times.

However that does nothing to impress De Vanna.

“Really she’s not my legend. My legends have already retired and that’s the Australian players that have dedicated to the country," De Vanna said.

"She (Marta) is a fantastic player and she brings a lot to football but at the end of the day I only care about my country and my players and that’s it.

"I have met her before she speaks Portuguese and I speak Portuguese.

“She wasn’t in a happy mood and if the roles were reversed I would have felt the same.

"She’s got more pressure than anyone else in the world. Now she can’t prove she is one of the best players in the world, it’s a hard loss for her.

The Matildas will now face the winner of the Japan and Netherlands encounter in the semi-final.
