Luongo kicked off the season with club side Swindon Town on the weekend by scoring the opener in his side's 3-1 win over Scunthorpe.

It was the 21-year-old’s first goal for Town since November.

While one of his side's best players last season, the all-action midfielder managed just six goals from 53 appearances last season and wants to contribute more offensively.

"It's something in my game I've been focusing a little more on – getting the shots off, getting in the box and I got a bit of reward," Luongo told The Swindon Advertiser.
"I think (last season) I was trying to be a bit more disciplined in midfield rather than being reckless and getting in the box.

"I was trying to adapt my game a little bit to suit the team and maybe suit my form a little bit but I'll see how it goes when it comes to January and winter days."

Luongo, who was part of the Socceroos’ World Cup squad in Brazil, certainly made more of an effort to get forward against Scunthorpe.

He was in the box for all three of his side’s goals and admitted his relief at managing to break his drought in front of goal.

"I was buzzing. I've been waiting so long for it," he said.

"I've got to learn from how I got the goals last season and the positions I took to get them.

"If I can watch my games, I can see what I did right and take that into my game."

Luongo will get a chance to add to his tally when Swindon take on Luton Town in the Capital One Cup tonight (Tues).
