Liam Miller released by Brisbane Roar

It was considered a coup when the Roar lured Miller to Suncorp Stadium from Perth Glory last year and the former Manchester United man duly played an important role in helping Mike Mulvey's team to lift their third A-League title.

The 34-year-old started Brisbane's loss at home to Adelaide United in Round 1 of their title defence and came off the bench in the 2-0 defeat against Sydney FC last Friday, as the Roar made a winless start to their title defence.

According to the club, Miller "has been granted an immediate release from the remainder of his contract to pursue other football opportunities."

"We brought Liam here to strengthen our squad and play good quality football. He was an integral part of our success as a squad last season and we thank him for his service to the club," Roar coach Mulvey said in the statement.

"It's always disappointing to lose a player of Liam's calibre but both player and club decided this was the best outcome. We wish him and his family all the best for his future."
