Caretaker manager Dave Robertson will attempt to lift the gloom at London Road when Peterborough United host League One promotion hopefuls Bradford City on Saturday, while Lee Johnson starts his reign as Barnsley head coach with a trip to Gillingham.

Darren Ferguson's second spell as Peterborough boss came to an end after a 3-0 defeat at MK Dons last weekend saw them drop down to 15th in the League One table.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony described Ferguson, who returned for a second spell at the club in 2011, as "one of the finest managers in our club's history", but must now decide who the right man is to mastermind a return to the Championship.

Bradford head to London Road on the back of a 2-1 defeat at fellow high-flyers Swindon Town on Tuesday.

Johnson turned his back on League One rivals Oldham Athletic to take over at Barnsley on Wednesday after two years in charge at Boundary Park.

The Yorkshire club, down in 16th place but only four points adrift of sixth-placed Bradford, won both games under caretaker managers Mark Burton and Paul Heckingbottom, and Johnson will attempt to stretch their winning run to three matches at Priestfield.

Coventry City are also in the market for a new manager after Steven Pressley left the Ricoh Arena on Monday.

A seven-game winless run resulted in Pressley's departure, but his assistants, Neil MacFarlane and former Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday, remained at the club and have been installed as caretaker managers ahead of the match with MK Dons.

Leaders Bristol City won 3-1 at Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday to go five points clear of MK Dons and now turn their attention to facing Rochdale at Ashton Gate.

Swindon travel to Crewe, Oldham - under the caretaker charge of Dean Holden - welcome Preston North End, and fifth-placed Sheffield United travel to struggling Crawley Town.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield entertain Fleetwood Town, Doncaster Rovers host Colchester United, and Port Vale travel to Notts County.

Bottom side Yeovil Town head to Scunthorpe United, while Leyton Orient travel to Walsall.
