Socceroo Harry Kewell has extended his stay with Turkish club Galatasaray for another season.
Kewell, who had a nightmare World Cup which lasted just 24 minutes after he was sent off against Ghana, has scotched rumours he is set to move to Spain, by agreeing to stay at the Turkish giants for at least another season.
Galatasaray's decision to re-sign Kewell, which is expected to be formalised later this week, is a sign of faith in the 31-year-old's fitness with Kewell having not played a full match since December.
He has scored 16 goals in 41 appearances since joining the club in 2008 and has come to an in principle agreement with Galatasaray according to the club's website.
He underwent groin surgery in January which hampered his preparations for the World Cup. He eventually took to the field for the second match against Ghana in Rustenburg but was sent off for a handball on the goal-line.
Kewell, who was a teenage star at Leeds before an injury-interrupted spell at Liverpool, has not confirmed his future with the national team.
However, his decision to stay in Turkey, which has a designated rest period over Christmas-New Year, increases the likelihood he will play in the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar.
