Huddersfield win at Blackpool

Huddersfiled leapfrogged Blackpool into the Championship promotion places after a 3-1 win at Bloomfield Road on Monday.

Goals from Lee Novak, James Vaughan and Oliver Norwood ensured Blackpool's first league loss at home since February as Simon Grayson's side stretched their unbeaten streak to six games.

Former Huddersfield forward Gary Taylor-Fletcher nabbed the hosts' only strike of the match to cancel out Novak's opener but Ian Holloway's men struggled to exert any influence on the match otherwise.

Huddersfield took control from the outset as Adam Clayton tested the Blackpool goal from range only to be denied by goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

It did not take long for Grayson's men to make their ascendancy count on the scoreboard, Novak pouncing on some slack defence to fire home Vaughan's flick-on just before the quarter-hour mark.

Tom Ince tested Alex Smithies' goal for the first time shortly after before showing some adroit footwork and squaring for Taylor-Fletcher to slot home an equaliser on 27 minutes.

The visitors responded on the stroke of half-time when Vaughan rose highest to power home a header from Norwood's free-kick.

And they were further ahead just two minutes after the interval when Norwood sent another free-kick into the area only for it to deceive the defence and Gilks before sailing into goal.

Vaughan could have killed the game off later in the piece only to miss a close-range header but it proved futile as Blackpool failed to mount a comeback.
