Hope Solo's recent off-the-field issues could spell trouble for her status with the United States during the upcoming Women's World Cup.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati acknowledged that it's "possible" a scenario could arise between now and the end of her team-imposed 30-day suspension that would force them to keep Solo off the roster. But both parties are hopeful the 33-year-old keeper will be in net when the World Cup gets underway June 6.

"We've asked her to do a number of things, and she's going to have to do those things and make progress in those areas," Gulati told reporters on a conference call Monday. "We hope that's not the case. We hope she's making progress and joins the team. That's certainly the goal — hers and ours."

Gulati declined to elaborate on specifically what is being asked of Solo during her suspension from the USWNT. Solo was punished after husband Jerramy Stevens was arrested Jan. 19 on suspicion of driving the team van while under the influence. She was a passenger in the vehicle and was not charged, but USSF officials thought she used poor judgment in getting in the car with a possibly impaired driver. They considered that while determining if a suspension was appropriate.

The incident came one week after a Seattle judge dismissed domestic violence charges against Solo.

Alcohol was involved in both cases and Solo was ordered to abstain from alcohol when she was arrested in June on the domestic violence charges in Kirkland, Washington.

When asked if part of Solo's suspension program includes admitting to an alcohol rehab center, Gulati said, "Neither one of us denied or confirmed that. Hope has been given time to deal with some issues... and there are a number of things she is being asked to do."

Solo will miss exhibition games against France (Feb. 8) and England (Feb. 13). She is scheduled to return in time for the Algarve Cup tournament in Portugal in March.
