Report from News Corp revealed all three of clubs – among the most supported in the world – could be heading to Melbourne to take part in the third edition of the pre-season tournament.

If it gets the go-ahead it means the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure may be on Australian shores for matches between July 18-24.

It’s understood the Victorian State government are kicking in $10 million dollars to help bring the heavyweights of world football Down Under.

Given the success of Liverpool’s visit to Melbourne last year – with more than 95,000 fans packing the MCG – organisers are confident of huge crowds to see some of the world’s best players.

With the tournament being staged just a few weeks before their respective European leagues begin, it should ensure each club brings their full squad.

If the tournament does go ahead it promises to be a huge month for football in Australia right in the middle of the AFL season in Victoria, while the NRL won’t be immune either as that competition will clash with the annual A-League All Stars clash in Sydney – with English club Arsenal reportedly a target – while the Queensland Government is still trying to convince Liverpool to play at Suncorp Stadium.
