FIFA officials arrested on corruption charges

The New York Times reports the FIFA officials were arrested peacefully and will be extradited to the United States on corruption charges.

FIFA boss Sepp Blatter isn't amoung the officials arrested.

Charges are believed to relate to World Cup hosting bids, including the 2018 and 2022 processes when Australia's bids was beaten by Russia and Qatar respectively.

Other charges involve broadcasting deals, wire fraud, money laundering and racketeering.

The widespread corruption charges date back to the early 1990s.

FIFA officials are in Zurich for the FIFA congress and presidential vote, which is expected to be held on Saturday.
