Feyenoord returned to third place in the Eredivisie on Sunday courtesy of a 3-0 away win over NEC Nijmegen.

With the top two sides PSV and Ajax having already won on Saturday, it was imperative Feyenoord took three points to keep the pressure on and they started in fine style at the Goffertstadion, with a goal from Jean-Paul Boetius 11 minutes in.

Graziano Pelle doubled the visitors' advantage three minutes before the interval, and Boetius' second goal in the 83rd minute sealed a comfortable win for Ronald Koeman's team.

The victory moved Feyenoord to 50 points, three adrift of leaders PSV and one behind Ajax.

In other Sunday results, Roda JC gave their hopes of avoiding relegation a boost with a 4-1 thumping of Groningen.

A first-half brace from Frank Demouge and another goal from Guus Hupperts helped Roda to a 3-1 lead at the interval, and Sanharib Malki completed the scoring three minutes into the second half.

Roda are still third-bottom despite the win, although only goal difference is keeping them in the relegation play-off position.

The team immediately above them are AZ Alkmaar, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at RKC Waalwijk.

A Mart Lieder brace - sandwiched between a Jozy Altidore goal - was enough for the home side to claim all three points.

And ADO Den Haag enjoyed a 3-1 home win against Heracles, with Mike van Duinen scoring twice for the victors.
