Sir Alex Ferguson was left pleased by the contribution of his youngsters as Manchester United beat Bursaspor 3-0 away from home on Wednesday.

Goals from Darren Fletcher, Gabriel Obertan and Bebe secured victory at the Bursa Ataturk Stadium, with United now just one point win away from securing qualification for the knock-out stage.

After being held goalless in the first half, a 48th-minute strike from Scottish midfielder Fletcher helped United to assert their superiority over the Turkish champions.

"We got one early in second half and that makes a difference," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"From that point on we were basically in control of the match, although they had a couple of half chances so you can never be sure, but the second goal killed match."

Obertan - scorer of the second goal - and former Fulham defender Chris Smalling both started for United, while Portuguese forward Bebe came off the bench to net the third, leaving Ferguson pleased with the contribution of all three youngsters.

"They did very well, (I am) very pleased with them," Ferguson said.

"Young players getting experience of tonight is as important as anything, but they did perform well too."

Obertan - signed from Bordeaux in 2009 - took his goal well, side-stepping a defender before blasting a powerful strike beyond the Bursaspor goalkeeper Dimitar Ivankov.

"He's had a couple of injuries, the boy, but he's only 20," Ferguson said of the attacking midfielder.

"He's developing very well and getting much stronger now. He's a real good talent, and his goal tonight showed that, a fantastic strike."

Manchester United face Rangers at Ibrox on November 24 needing just a point to progress, but Ferguson will be targeting a victory against a team managed by his countryman and former assistant Walter Smith.

"A draw will put us through but we'll go up there and try do our best to win the match like we did tonight - it's important, that," he said.
