Eriksson promised blank cheque

Sven-Goran Eriksson said he will get all the money he needs from Leicester City's owners as he aims to steer the club back into the top flight.

The 62-year-old replaced Paulo Sousa as Leicester manager last week after the Foxes picked up just eight points from their opening 10 games and conceded the most goals of any side in the Championship.

The Swede said the Foxes' owners, an Asian consortium led by Thai businessman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, will supply any funding the club needs to attract players that will take the club into the English Premier League.

"Well, I'm in the situation, a very good situation because I asked the owner how much money they will put on the table to take, to take the club to Premier League and the answer was: 'You tell me what you need'," Eriksson told Reutres.

"That's good. But we just started working and as you know we can't buy any players until January, maybe we're going to take one or two on loan until the end of December but I wanted to see them this week and wanted to see them in this game (against Thailand) and from Monday, when we're back in Leicester, we want to start work on that."

Eriksson's side defeated Thailand's national team 2-0 while on a tour of the Asian country on Saturday, with the goals coming courtesy of Martyn Waghorn and Paul Gallagher.

However, the Midlands club is sitting 22nd on the Championship table, and the 62-year-old could not put a timeline on when he believes City can make a long-awaited return to the top flight.

"The position in the table is not very good at this moment," Eriksson said.

"We will try as soon as we can and you can never promise in football but the target for everyone since the new owner came in is Premier League."

"If it will take one year or more, I don't know that. I can't promise that."
