The 48-year-old took over at the end of September after Marco van Basten stepped down due to health reasons, and he gained his maiden victory in the job in the KNVB Beker clash with GVVV Veenendaal late last month.

He finally broke his duck in league action at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, Nemanja Gudelj scoring against his former side with the only goal in the 57th minute.

The Serbian found the net in spectacular fashion, looping a volley over the goalkeeper from an angle.

The win sees AZ move up to sixth at least until Sunday, while NAC are now without a league win in seven matches.

Heerenveen are also out of form and they failed to win for the fifth Eredivisie match in succession, although things could have been worse as they came from two down to draw 2-2 at home to Go Ahead Eagles.

Marnix Kolder and Alex Schalk ensured the visitors took a 2-0 lead into the break, before reported Manchester United target Daley Sinkgraven pulled one back just after half-time.

Substitute Jukka Raitala rescued a point in the 84th minute, but Heerenveen could not produce a third.

Den Haag let a two-goal lead slip at home to Willem II, but they still came away with all three points thanks to Roland Alberg's 73rd-minute winner.

Samuel Armenteros and a Martin Hansen own goal had cancelled out first-half strikes from Mathias Gehrt and Michiel Kramer, but Willem II's efforts ultimately went unrewarded as Alberg netted 17 minutes from the end.

Elsewhere, PEC Zwolle moved back into the top four with a 2-0 win over visitors Groningen, despite seeing striker Tomas Necid sent off 12 minutes from time.
