"I think Ange has mentioned it once, this whole four-year plan about looking ahead and everything," he was quoted as saying from Morocco, where the Wanderers are due to face Cruz Azul in the Club World Cup on Sunday morning (AEST).
"I suppose it's the easy way out. To be honest, I think with me that form didn't really have a part to play in whether I got selected for the Socceroos or not.
"I've never even received a phone call about (it) and that speaks louder than anything else.
"I know my form is good enough to be in there but we've got a coach that takes a different view. There's not much I can do about it."
Covic was released from Melbourne Victory upon Postecoglou taking over ahead of the 2012-13 season.
Now in charge of the national team, the coach opted for Mat Ryan, Eugene Galekovic, Adam Federici, Mitch Langerak and Brad Jones in his latest squad, Covic pointing out that the latter two have not featured regularly for Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool respectively.
"They've got five keepers in there and two of them haven't even been playing," he said.
"Make of that what you will.
"Supposedly, it's meant to be on form, but that’s a bit of a spanner in the works, isn't it?"
