Brest remain on top of the Ligue 1 but missed a golden chance to extend their lead as they drew 1-1 with Sochaux on Sunday.

If the newly promoted side are to sustain their title challenge, they will not be able to drop points at home on a regular basis to the likes of Sochaux, who sit 14th after their valuable draw.

Ideye Brown grabbed the all-important first goal for Sochaux but their lead only lasted 16 minutes before Nolan Roux hit a well-timed volley to level proceedings.

But despite Brest's best efforts, they could not find the winning goal as just under 13,000 home fans at the Stade Francis-Le Ble went home disappointed.

Lille shot into second after a superb 5-2 away victory at Caen as two of the league's top scorers found the back of the net.

Senegal striker Moussa Sow struck for Lille after 25 and 35 minutes, drawing equal with Caen's Youssef El-Arabi at the top of the scoring charts in the process.

Moroccan forward El-Arabi was not giving up his lead in a hurry, however, as he made the most of Benjamin Nivet's pass to pull one back after 40 minutes.

But Sow again joined El-Arabi after his injury-time goal completed a superb first-half hat-trick.

Buoyed by their home crowd, Caen pressed for a second goal to force themselves back into the game, and Kandia Troare gave them a lifeline with his 88th-minute strike to cut Lille's lead to one goal.

But with Caen going all out for the equaliser, Lille hit them on the break, with injury time goals to Gervinho and Franck Beria sealing the terrific victory.

In other matches, Oliver Giroud's 21st-minute goal gave Montpellier a 1-0 victory over Toulouse and lifted them into third, while strugglers Monaco and Arles played out a goalless draw.

Wendel's injury-time winner gave Bordeaux a 2-1 triumph over Nancy, but Marseille remains ahead of the former on the Ligue 1 table despite being held to a 1-1 draw with Lens at home.
