Bob Bradley has signed a four-year contract extension that will see him manage the US football team until the end of 2014.

Bradley had been linked to the job vacancy at Aston Villa, but the club announced they were after a manager with experience in the English Premier League experience; something that Bradley does not possess.

US Soccer released a statement on Monday confirming the deal, which confirmed the 52-year-old's alliance with America would remain until at least the next World Cup in Brazil.

"US Soccer has agreed to a contract extension with US men's national team head coach Bob Bradley. The agreement with Bradley, who guided the US team to numerous achievements including finishing in first place in their group at the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time in 80 years, will keep him at the helm through the end of 2014," the statement read.

In the past 48 hours, Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner released a statement underlying Premier League experience as a pre-requisite for the permanent job at Villa Park, effectively ruling out Bradley.

"Two of the traits we believe are of crucial importance are that candidates have experience of managing in the Premier League and a strategy for building on the existing strengths in our current squad," the statement read.

Bradley took the Americans to the knockout stage at the 2010 World Cup where they lost to Ghana.

The US won the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup under Bradley and made the final of the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa.
