Aussies Abroad: Schwarzer and Jedinak sway EPL title race

The two Australians in Premier League action were involved in matches that could prove decisive in determing the outcome of the title race. Mark Schwarzer, playing for Chelsea in place of injured goalkeeper Petr Cech, helped to deny league leaders Liverpool in a 2-0 away win for Jose Mourinho's men on Sunday.

Later in the day, Mile Jedinak and Crystal Palace lost at home to Manchester City by the same scoreline, those results opening the door for Manuel Pellegrini's team to catch the Reds.

In the Championship, Scott McDonald came off the bench for Millwall in the 65th minute of their 1-1 draw away to Queens Park Rangers.

Massimo Luongo played the full game for Swindon Town in their 2-0 League One loss at Notts County.

Jackson Irvine started and finished Kilmarnock's 2-1 Scottish Premiership loss at Ross County, while Dylan McGowan also played the full 90 minutes for Hearts as they defeated Edinburgh rivals Hibs 2-1 on the road.

Europe

James Holland completed the game for Austria Wien as they drew 1-1 at Wacker Innsbruck in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Mat Ryan played as Club Brugge came from a goal down to win 3-1 at Lokeren, the victory taking them top of the Belgian Pro League's championship playoffs.

Ben Halloran played the full game and scored the final goal as Fortuna Dusseldorf defeated Erzgebirge Aue 4-0 in Germany's 2. Bundesliga. Mathew Leckie started for FSV Frankfurt and was withdrawn in 71st minute of their 3-1 win at home to Energie Cottbus.

Jason Davidson completed 90 minutes in Heracles' 1-1 draw at home to Ajax, who were crowned Eredivisie champions. Tommy Oar played the full game and Adam Sarota started before being subbed off on 64 minutes as Utrecht lost 4-1 at Heerenveen.

Dario Vidosic came on with 16 minutes to go in Sion's 2-0 Swiss Super League win at home to fellow strugglers Aarau.

Luke Wilkshire started and was withdrawn in the 78th minute of Dinamo Moscow's 1-0 defeat at Terek Grozny in the Russian Premier League.

Asia

Adam Hughes played the full game for Harbin Yiteng as they lost 1-0 at home to Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League. Daniel McBreen completed 90 minutes and scored the opening goal for Shanghai SIPG in a 1-1 draw at home to Shanghai Shenhua.

Billy Celeski started but scored an own-goal and was subbed off in the 81st minute of Liaoning Whowin's 4-0 loss at home to Guangzhou Evergrande. Jonas Salley played the full game for Guizhou Renhe in a 0-0 draw at Changchun Yatai.

Mitch Nichols came on for the last 12 minutes of Cerezo Osaka's 2-2 draw away to Vissel Kobe in the J-League.

Aleksandar Jovanovic conceded a 12th-minute own-goal and was withdrawn on the hour mark of Jeju United's 2-1 home win over Busan I'Park in the K-League. Alex Wilkinson completed 90 minutes for Jeonbuk Motors as they defeated Gyeongnam 4-1 at home, Luke DeVere playing for the visitors but unable to prevent the heavy defeat.

Brett Holman started and finished a 3-1 loss for Al Nasr away to Ajman in the Arabian Gulf League.

North America

Andy Rose came on for the final eight minutes of the Seattle Sounders' 4-1 Major League Soccer win at home to Colorado Rapids.
