Troisi was involved in an eventful match against Standard Liege, which saw the referee take the players from the field for 15 minutes due to crowd trouble.

When they returned Troisi stole the show with a stunning strike from 25 yards out to give his side an unassailable 2-0 lead with just two minutes remaining.

The ex-Melbourne Victory attacker received the ball 30 yards from goal, turned and ran at a retreating defence before smashing the ball into the top corner of the net.

Liege hit back a couple of minutes later to make it 2-1 which sparked more trouble from the fans, forcing the referee to abandon the contest in stoppage time.

It was a less eventful night for goal-keeper Mat Ryan in the Belgium Pro League as his Club Brugge cruised to a 3-1 win at KSC Lokeren.

Fresh from his Socceroos recall last week, Aziz Behich played a full match as Bursaspor drew 2-2 with Eskisehirspor, while Mathew Leckie also got through 90 minutes in FC Ingolstadt’s 1-0 away win against FSV Frankfurt.

Tommy Oar continues to rip it up in the Eredivisie, providing another assist to set up his side’s goal in their 3-1 defeat to FC Dordrecht.

Defender Luke Wilkshire has also been one of Feyenoord’s best this campaign and set up their opener in the 2-1 win over Heracles Almelo.

There was more impressive performances in England’s lower leagues as Scott McDonald had an assist as his Millwall side came from two-goals down to draw 3-3 with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Neil Kilkenny also set up the first goal for Preston North End as they moved up to fourth in League One with a 2-0 home win over Port Vale.

In Switzerland overnight, both Oliver Bozanic (FC Luzern) and Dario Vidosic (FC Sion) were in the starting line-ups for the respective clubs, who both drew their matches 0-0.

Skipper Mile Jedinak was immense for Crystal Palace but couldn’t inspire them to an upset as English Premier League leaders Chelsea held on for a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.
