An Argentine third division football match was abandoned on Wednesday after a vicious fight erupted involving players, substitutes and riot police saw 12 red cards handed out.

The comical scenes between Deportivo Roca and Cipolletti started after two players were sent off following a seemingly innocuous clash.

Cipolletti defender Marcos Lamolla was initially given a yellow card for a foul on Fernando Fernandez, who protested and was sent off. This led to more protests, a scuffle and Lamolla was given another yellow and dismissed.

Lamolla then ran the whole length of the pitch to confront Fernandez, who was on his way to the dressing room, before another Deportivo Roca player stopped his opponent in his tracks.

It was then on for young and old as players from both sides launched a series attacks at each other while bottles and other missiles rained down on them from the stands.

Long live Argentine football!
