Amini has spent three seasons at the Bundesliga club but has been unable to break into the first-team during that time.

“I didn't expect this day to come so soon in my short lived career at BVB, but I thank you very much for an amazing 3 years I'll never forget,” Amini said on Instagram.

“The journey has made me learn a lot about myself and has turned me into a man that is ready for his next footballing challenge.

“After today a new journey will start for me where I'm now 22. It's important for me to try and fulfil my complete ability by playing first team football somewhere else.”

The 22-year-old recently ruled out a return to the Hyundai A-League, with his preference to stay in Europe.

It’s understood he has options to stay in Germany or move to either Belgium, the Netherlands or Denmark.

To the club, fans and my team mates at Borussia Dortmund- you have given me wonderful times and life changing experiences that I will cherish forever. During this time it made some of my dreams a reality. The experience of being on the Champions League bench against some of the world's best teams, listening to the Champions League song in the Signal Iduna in front of some of the greatest fans in the world will forever be in my heart and this is not to stop short of mentioning my inclusion in the squad for the Super Cup final against Bayern Munich, and a lot more. I didn't expect this day to come so soon in my short lived career at BVB, but I thank you very much for an amazing 3 years I'll never forget. The journey has made me learn a lot about myself and has turned me into a man that is ready for his next footballing challenge. At age 18, it wasn't easy to pack everything and leave to the other side of the world, but with all my fans behind me it made it a lot easier to get through the tough times. I went through some hard times initially, but football has made me strong and you fans kept me going. A special thanks to you all, and sorry I couldn't complete the journey and fulfil that dream of playing in front of the most loyal supporters inside the Signal Iduna, this was out of my control. After today a new journey will start for me where I'm now 22. It's important for me to try and fulfil my complete ability by playing first team football somewhere else. In life you never know what can happen, it might be that I come back one day as an opponent of BVB or a BVB player. This journey is only determined by what is meant to be. To all my fans, I couldn't thank you enough for all the support you have given me. I would like to conclude by saying a special thanks to club Borussia Dortmund for giving me the chance to wear the black and yellow jersey and experience great times with some fantastic players and people, it will always be stored in a special place in my heart. I will cherish the last 3 years as a happy and wonderful time and I will always be a fan and follow from afar. Danke!!!!! The sky is the limit ⚽️🇩🇪😎🙏❤️💪 #bvb

If Amini can secure some consistent game-time next season he looms as a key figure for Aurelio Vidmar’s Olyroos as they look to qualify for next year’s Rio Olympics.
