Ajax Amsterdam moved to the top of the Eredivisie after a convincing 3-0 home victory against NAC Breda on Saturday.

Ajax were winless in three matches in all competitions going into the clash with NAC, a run that saw them overtaken by PSV Eindhoven on the league table.

But with PSV not in action until Sunday, the Dutch giants had the chance to move back to the summit and Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen gave them the perfect start with a 15th minute strike.

Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez then stamped his authority on the game, setting up Moroccan Mounir El Hamdaoui for the second goal after 31 minutes and adding a score of his own 11 minutes from time to wrap up the points.

Elsewhere, FC Twente rose to second and continued Feyenoord's miserable run of form with a gritty 1-0 away win in Rotterdam.

Substitute Denny Landzaat struck the game's only goal 12 minutes from time as Feyenoord's winless run extended to six matches in all competitions.

A 90th minute winner from Dmitri Bulykin moved ADO Den Haag to sixth on the table following a 2-1 defeat of Excelsior.

A penalty from Tim Vincken put visitors Excelsior in front, but Bulykin set up Slovakian Frantisek Kubik for Den Haag's equaliser with 25 minutes to play before his late strike sealed the come-from-behind win.

In other matches, De Graafschap fought back from 2-0 down away at Utrecht to snatch a draw thanks to a late Steve de Ridder strike, while Graziano Pelle's 89th minute goal gave AZ Alkmaar a 1-0 away win at VVV Venlo.
