Danny Vukovic's Brazil hopes boosted

Daniel Vukovic

According to a report on The World Game website, the 28-year-old has joined Graham Arnold's J-League side on a temporary basis, with the option for Vegalta to make the move permanent.

The club lost regular goalkeeper Takuto Hayashi to Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the end of last season, leaving Shigeru Sakurai, Kentaro Seki and inexperienced American Daniel Schmidt vying for the gloves.

If Vukovic transfers his excellent form in the A-League to Japan's top flight, he could interest Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, who picked Mat Ryan, Mitch Langerak and Brad Jones as the three goalkeepers in his latest squad.

Australia has no shortage of options between the sticks, with Adelaide United's Eugene Galekovic and the Newcastle Jets' Mark Birighitti, the latter on debut, both acquitting themselves well under Holger Osieck at the East Asian Cup in July.

Nathan Coe has almost certainly played his way out of contention after a poor season to date for Melbourne Victory, while Postecoglou also has Reading's Adam Federici as a realistic option, although a lack of game-time at Reading in 2013-14 is likely to count against him.

With Langerak and Jones in a similar situation as back-up keepers at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool respectively, the chance is there for Vukovic to shine in one of Asia's premier club competitions, and earn a surprise place on the plane to Brazil.
