Melbourne Victory defender Rody Vargas believes his side can break their recent dry spell and be the first this season to breach former team-mate and now Brisbane Roar stopper Michael Theoklitos in Sunday's clash at AAMI Park.
Victory have scored just one goal from open play in their past four matches and were kept scoreless for the second time in a match this season against Central Coast last week.
Meanwhile, Theoklitos, who joined the Roar this season after a failed season in Europe with Norwich City, has had a spectacular return to the A-League, keeping clean sheets in all of his four matches to date.
Vargas said he hadn't been following his former team-mate that closely, but thinks Melbourne have what it takes to get at least one past him.
"Yeah I haven't connected the Foxtel yet so I haven't been watching many games but from all accounts he's had a good year and we all know he's a quality keeper and he had a rough time in Europe but it'd be good to hopefully get a few past him this week," Vargas said.
The match also takes on extra significance for Victory striker Robbie Kruse, who cut his teeth with Brisbane as a younger player.
Kruse is looking forward to taking on his former side again as he recovers form and fitness after a delayed start to the season.
"It's exciting to play them again," Kruse said.
"You always look back and want to prove a point to your old club and I still have a lot of friends there so I'm looking forward to the game."
"(Coach) Ange (Postecoglou) has done a great job with that team, they're looking good so it's going to be a great game."
"We're confident in our abilities and we're confident we'll get the win," he said.
"They like to attack so hopefully they come down here and want to press forward and we'll be doing the same as we always do."
