Tevez issues apology

Tevez issues apology

Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez has issued an apology to the club and fans for his behaviour this season.

Tevez was in the headlines in September after refusing to warm up when asked to by manager Roberto Mancini in a Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The Argentine has not played for the club since, spending a stint in Argentina, and he looked set to leave City in the January transfer window.

Tevez was linked with a series of transfer moves but none materialised as he returned to England.

The former West Ham and Manchester United striker has now apologised for his actions and he could be set for a return to the first team.

"I wish to apologise sincerely and unreservedly to everybody I have let down and to whom my actions over the last few months have caused offence," a statement on the club's official website said.

"My wish is to concentrate on playing football for Manchester City Football Club."

Tevez – who was fined six weeks wages by the club for leaving England without permission – had appealed against the decision initially.

But a club spokesman revealed Tevez has withdrawn his appeal and that he had returned to training in a bid to build up his fitness levels.

"Carlos has today apologised to all concerned for his recent conduct. He returned to the football club last Tuesday, following a three month absence from duties, without permission," the spokesman said.

"Carlos has also withdrawn his appeal against the Club's finding of gross misconduct which was due to be heard by a Premier League panel in the coming days. He has since begun a training program designed to return him to optimum fitness."
