Swans deny Rangel bid

Swans deny Rangel bid

Championship side Swansea City has knocked back a bid from Blackpool for its defender Angel Rangel.

The Premier League new boys are yet to sign a player during the transfer window but Tangerine boss Ian Holloway had hoped to rectify that by bidding for Rangel.

But Swansea has rejected a reported bid of one million pounds ($A1.7 million) for its Spanish right back.

"An offer has come in to the chairman from Blackpool for Angel, but it has not been accepted. The situation is under control and I am due to have a meeting with Angel on Friday," Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers told the club's official website.

"I want him to stay and there is an offer of another contract on the table for him."

Rodgers hopes to meet with Rangel on Friday to persuade the defender to sign a new contract despite bids from Blackpool and Wigan.

Swansea turned down a bid for Rangel from Fulham in the January transfer window and the Spaniard voiced his disappointment at the time saying he was 'disappointed' with chairman Huw Jenkins claiming he had 'stopped me improving my career'.

A performance-based clause trigged a renewal of his contract in February and Swansea is understandably keen to keep a hold of the defender.

"Angel is 27, in the last year of his contract and desperate to play in the Premier League. But so are we. We have no need to sell him (financially) and I think this is the place to be," he said.

Rodgers said it was just 'coincidence' that Rangel played no part in Swansea's 9-1 friendly win over VC Sparta of Holland.

Angel signed for City from Spanish side Terrassa in 2007 and has made 121 appearances for the Swans.
