Tottenham have signed former Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen.
The New Zealand international's contract at Ewood Park had been cancelled by mutual consent, paving the way for a move to White Hart Lane.
On Wednesday, Nelsen's agent Lyle Yorks confirmed that the player had agreed a six-month deal with a further one-year option with Spurs.
Yorks told the Washington Post: "It's for six months, with a one-year option. It all unfolded quickly."
"(Spurs manager) Harry Redknapp has always been a big fan of Ryan."
"When the opportunity came up, it really played itself out."
Nelsen, now 34, was made Blackburn captain in 2007 but was replaced in the role following a series of injury problems by Christopher Samba during the 2010-11 season, while retaining the title of club captain.
The former DC United man takes the place of Sebastien Bassong in the Tottenham squad, with the 25-year-old centre-back joining Wolves on loan until the end of the season.
He made more than 200 appearances in all competitions for Rovers, having joined the club from the MLS in January 2005.
Nelsen has only made one appearance this season due to a serious knee injury but former Rovers star Kevin Gallacher said he has played a 'massive part' in the club's success story in recent years.
"Ryan has been an incredible servant, an incredible stalwart and will go down in Rovers history as one of the greats of this era," Gallacher said.
"It is only during the last year that injuries have limited his appearances. He has played a key role in everything the club has achieved though."
"Rovers got Ryan on a free transfer from the MLS and no one knew if he would be any good. He has been more than that, he has been brilliant."
