Roma missed a golden chance to move into fifth place on the Serie A table on Monday when they suffered a 1-0 loss at struggling Siena.

Siena were just two points clear of the relegation zone prior to the match, but a penalty from Emanuele Calaio six minutes into the second half was enough to clinch all three points from a match Luis Enrique's side dominated.

Simon Kjaer was adjudged to have fouled Mattia Destro inside the area, and referee Gianluca Rocchi pointed to the spot.

Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg guessed correctly and dived to his left, but he could not prevent Calaio from registering his 10th league goal of the season.

Elsewhere on Monday, Napoli collected their first league win in six matches thanks to a convincing 2-0 victory over Chievo at Stadio San Paolo.

First-half strikes by Miguel Britos and Edinson Cavani were enough to ensure Walter Mazzarri's side moved within one point of sixth-placed Roma.

Napoli's supremacy was felt in the 15th minute as Uruguayan defender Britos opened the scoring with a thumping header, finding himself unmarked after a fine corner from Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Marek Hamsik played a key role in Napoli clinching the match when the Slovakian slid a perfect through ball to Cavani seven minutes before the break and the Uruguayan was brought down by Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

Cavani stepped up to convert from the penalty spot for this 13th league goal of the campaign.
